The Salma is a linear chandelier of hand-woven white rattan over a solid copper frame, 120 cm (47.2") long, 28 cm (11") wide and 34 cm (13.4") high. Two stepped tiers of fine vertical strands turn the light into a soft, luminous glow over a kitchen island or dining table, and read as a calm, pale form in the room when the light is off.
The weave
Rattan is a natural fibre, finished in white and wrapped by hand around the frame strand by strand, so tone and texture vary slightly from piece to piece. The white is soft, closer to ivory and unbleached linen than to a cold optical white, and it sits easily beside pale oak, limewash, plaster, travertine and white stone. The weave carries over the top of the frame as well as the sides, so the piece reads as finished from a staircase or mezzanine above.
The frame
The strands are wrapped over solid copper rather than steel wire. Copper does not rust, so nothing bleeds through to mark the fibre over the years. On a white weave that matters more than on any other colour, and more still in kitchens and in homes near the sea.
Why warm light matters
A white weave shows the colour of the lamp inside it more honestly than any other. At 2700K it glows a warm ivory, close to candlelight; cooler light turns it stark and clinical. On this piece, warm white is part of the design.
Sizing and placement
At 120 cm it suits a dining table of about 180 to 240 cm (71 to 94") or a kitchen island of similar length. Hang the base 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35") above the surface. At 28 cm (11") wide it stays slim over a narrow island and keeps sightlines open across a table. Over an island or table longer than about 3 m (10 ft), two hung in line read better than one.
Suspension
It hangs from a slim rectangular canopy on two stems wrapped in the same white fibre, 50 cm (19.7") as standard. With the standard stems the overall drop is about 85 cm (33.5"), which suits ceilings of 2.4 to 2.7 m (8 to 9 ft) over a table or island. Shorter or longer stems are made to order for lower or higher ceilings. The canopy is shown in a brass finish; others can be chosen from the Casalola metal finish chart.
The light
White is the most luminous of the Salma weaves: the pale fibre passes and reflects more light than the darker colours, so the whole form glows like a lantern. It is still a filtered, ambient light rather than a hard downlight. Over a working island, keep recessed or under-cabinet task lighting alongside it.
Lamping and installation
Three E27 lamps (E26 for North America). Warm white LED at 2700K, around 8 to 10 W each (800 to 1,000 lumens), gives a comfortable level over a table. Bulbs are not included. The piece weighs about 5 to 8 kg (11 to 18 lb); have your electrician confirm the ceiling fixing before hanging.
Care
Dust regularly with a soft dry brush or a vacuum brush on low suction. Rattan belongs in dry interiors: it is at home in a kitchen with good extraction, but not directly over a hob or in a bathroom. A white weave shows cooking vapour sooner than the darker colours, so placement matters more here.
Made to order
Stem length, canopy finish and rattan colour can be specified before production. The Salma is also made in natural, black and green rattan. A sloped ceiling adapter and dimming are available on request. Trade clients can request drawings and project quantities through our trade program.

We wire every lamp in our workshop for the country it is delivered to. Voltage, plug and electrical standard are set from your delivery address, so there is nothing to choose at checkout. Pieces shipped to the US are fitted with UL-listed drivers and LED components.
The colour temperature is listed in the specifications. A dimmable version, or a warmer or cooler light, can be made at no extra cost: write it in the note at checkout.
Every piece is assembled, wired and switched on at our workshop bench before it is packed. We check the electrics, the fixings and the finish, and nothing is crated until it passes.
Ask us, and we send you a video of your own lamp, lit and working, before it leaves the workshop. It is free.
An installation manual is packed with every lamp. Hardwired fixtures should be installed by a licensed electrician.
For ceiling lights, a standard ceiling box carries about 23 kg (50 lb). Check the weight in the specifications: heavier pieces need a fan-rated box or a mounting plate fixed to a joist.
If a piece arrives damaged, defective or incorrect, email contact@casalolalights.com with your order number and photos. We cover the return shipping and send a free replacement or a full refund, with no restocking fee.
If a parcel is lost, we replace it free or refund it in full. An order not delivered within 90 days of dispatch is refunded automatically.
Every piece carries a two-year warranty against manufacturing defects, from the day it is delivered.
Standard catalogue pieces, including pieces made after you order, can be returned within 30 days of delivery. The piece must be unused, uninstalled and in its original packaging. A 20% restocking fee and return shipping apply.
Choosing a finish, size, dimming option, colour temperature, cable length or plug does not affect your right to return. Bespoke commissions (a non-catalogue size, a structural change or a specially commissioned material, agreed before payment) and items marked final sale cannot be returned for change of mind.
Cancelling
Free within 48 hours of ordering. After that, a charge of up to 20% may apply for materials and work already committed to your piece.

Your 14-day statutory right of withdrawal applies, with no restocking fee.

Yes, both ways, at no extra cost. The drop can be shortened for a lower ceiling, or extended in 50 cm (20 in) sections for a higher one, and we set the finished height to your room. For double-height rooms and stairwells, drops beyond 3 m (10 ft) are quoted with a drawing for you to approve before production. Yes, at no extra cost. The standard version is not dimmable; write #dim in the note at checkout and we fit a dimmable driver.
